Two Kiwi companies have created a beautiful new collab that’s good for the community, and you – have your cake (in ice cream form) and eat your veges too!
Duck Island and Everybody Eats have put their foodie minds together for a cause to create a sweet new ice cream flavour coming mid-July. A special blend of carrots, cream cheese and traditional carrot cake spices is predicted to become a favourite among Duck Island’s loyal following.
Everybody Eats – a pay-what-you-feel restaurant – has been supporting their local communities in Auckland and Wellington since 2017. The Duck Island ice cream serves as their fourth foodie collab, having previously worked with Hallertau, The Collective, and Naked Locals on bespoke products over the years. The Everybody Eats team, however, are particular fans of Duck Island’s interesting flavour combos and high quality ingredients.
But why carrot cake?
“Carrot cake is a staple in our restaurants because not only can we use up loads of perfectly good carrots (yes, skin and all!), it’s also always a crowd-pleaser. We were lucky enough to try a few different flavours that Duck Island came up with, using other surplus produce such as parsnip, sage and pumpkin, but we instantly fell in love with their carrot cake creation,” says Everybody Eats.
“Because there is so much food out there to be rescued, we thought it would be really fun to partner with them and create a special flavour using surplus ingredients that would otherwise go to waste.”
“Also, we really love ice cream.”
And who doesn’t? From mid-July and throughout August, Duck Island’s Carrot Cake Ice Cream will be served at Everybody Eats restaurants in Auckland and Wellington, along with all Duck Island scoop shops, with 50c of every scoop donated to Everybody Eats.
