Buckle up and get ready for Gunpowder Milkshake. An exciting action thriller featuring a stellar line-up of kick-ass actors.

Gunpowder Milkshake is in cinemas July 15th

Librarians by day, ruthless assassins by night – the women in this action-packed thriller sure have a wide range of talents. Gunpowder Milkshake is a female-focused film about a heist gone wrong and features a stellar line-up of kick-ass actors: Karen Gillan (Jumanji), Lena Heady (Game of Thrones), Michelle Yeoh (Crazy Rich Asians), Angela Bassett (Black Panther) and Carla Gugino (The Haunting of Hill House).

From left: Michelle, Angela and Carla form a killer clique known as The Librarians.

Karen stars as Sam, a fierce hitwoman who was abandoned as a child by her mother Scarlet (Lena) and raised by a crime syndicate known as The Firm. When a risky job doesn’t go to plan, Sam has to choose between obeying The Firm or saving the life of an innocent eight-year-old girl named Emily. Reluctantly, Sam enlists the help of her estranged mother and, along with Scarlet’s associates, The Librarians, the pair learn to work together while trying to restore their relationship.

“Sam is so cool,” says Karen, 33. “First, she is incredible at fighting, but the character has also got such depth: she’s suffering from the sense of loss and lack of self-worth because she felt there wasn’t enough to keep her mother around, so she has abandonment issues. Playing a character of such contrasts – someone who’s very strong and an amazing fighter, but also emotionally vulnerable – would, I knew, be really cool.”

Lena shakes things up as elite assassin Scarlet.

“To see women in traditional male roles and unafraid to be violent in terms of survival and righting wrongs is great,” adds Lena, 47. “We had an amazing time. All the women connected and I got to crush on Angela Bassett – who doesn’t dream of that?”
